CARLOS PENA isn't a name banded around Ibrox as a legend of the club.

But the 32-year-old has made the bold claim he helped SAVE Rangers.

The Mexican striker was signed by Pedro Caixinha for a reported £2.5m back in 2017.

But he wouldn't etch his name in the club's history despite a bright start with five goals in 14 games for the club.

Instead, Pena would be released two years later after loan spells to Cruz Azul and Necaxa in his homeland.

However, in a new interview, Pena has cited Rangers as a positive moment in his career alongside stints at Chivas and Leon.

And the former Mexico international also downplayed any off-filed problems as he spoke with Honduran outlet TVC.

Pena, as translated by The Daily Record, said: "There are no off-field problems, judge me by what I am going to do on the field.

"I am committed as I have done with all the teams. With Chivas, who were in the relegation zone, I saved them.

"With Rangers, I also saved them and we promoted León.

"FAS were 11 years without being a champion; Antigua was going to be relegated. Judge me for what I am going to do off the pitch."
