RANGERS will take on Napoli in the Champions Legaue this week.

That has not changed.

However, as announced today by UEFA, the date of the matchday two clash has been pushed back by 24-hours.

The game was originally due to be played on Tuesday, September 13, with an 8pm kick-off. It will now be played on Wednesday, September 14.

UEFA citing "severe limitations on police resources and organisational issues" relating to the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II as the primary reason for the rescheduling of the game.

As part of the call, no away fans will be allowed into Ibrox to watch the match.

In turn, no Rangers fans will be permitted to watch the return group game on October 26 in Naples.

All of this has led to some confusion among supporters as to why the game had to be moved, while the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea will also play their European home ties as planned.

The events surround the mourning period of the monarchy is the simple answer.

Her Majesty passed away at Balmoral, near Aberdeen.

King Charles and the Queen Consort will arrive in Scotland on Monday amid a series of events to mark his mother's passing and will remain overnight.

The King then departs for Belfast on Tuesday while the Queen's coffin will be moved from Edinburgh to RAF Northolt at 6pm.

A large police presence will therefore be required on Tuesday to ensure protection for the key public figures involved.

Furthermore, with Napoli's travelling fans likely to be categorised into a "high-risk" section by the forces, it's clear to see why away fans have not be permitted in these exceptional circumstances.

On Wednesday, The Queen's coffin will no longer be in Scotland, as The Queen's lying in state is expected to begin in Westminster Hall, in London - Operation Marquee - following a ceremonial procession through London.
