BORNA BARISIC reckons Rangers have given themselves a platform for improvement despite suffering a third straight defeat against Napoli.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side sit bottom of Group A after following up their 4-0 loss away to Ajax with a 3-0 reverse at home to the Serie A giants on Wednesday.

Rangers now return to Premiership action against Dundee United this weekend aiming to make amends for the crushing Old Firm defeat earlier this month.

There were positives to take as Van Bronckhorst altered his approach at Ibrox and Barisic was encouraged by the performance from the ten-man Light Blues.

Barisic said: "I agree with you. We have been much better.

"We had aggression and a style of play and brought our identity but in the end, it’s hard to defend against the quality Napoli has. We are very disappointed but we can take some positive things.

"Yes, of course [we need to take those qualities into the next game]. We need to look at the fixture in two days, it’s a very important game in the league and we’ll take some positive things from this.

"The reason we always adapt a little bit to the opponents' style. We adapt on how we can play and it’s the coach’s decision.

"We accept that and we played good, especially first half where we created a couple of chances but in the end with 10 men, it’s not easy to defend especially against Napoli who are a very good team."

Rangers are now staring at an early European exit this term after losing further ground to Napoli and seeing Liverpool get off and running in Group A.

Two fixtures with the Reds could now define their campaign and, when asked if Rangers had to take something from the double-header with Liverpool, Barisic said: "Of course, we will try. We have four games more.

"We need to take some positive things but also see what we can improve from this game and the Ajax game. It’s a hard competition, it’s the Champions League and it’s the hardest level but we have to learn from that."
