BEN DAVIES is reportedly being assessed over an injury concern as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's squad is decimated by knocks.

The Rangers centre-back played 90 minutes in the 7-1 Champions League loss to Liverpool last night.

But he has reportedly picked up a knock and checked in with Ibrox medical staff this morning.

The Athletic claim Davies felt "muscle tightness" during the heavy defeat but played through the pain with Connor Goldson already forced off in the match.

Davies' defensive partner couldn't continue in the match after a nasty injury blow as he left the stadium on crutches sparking fears of weeks on the sidelines.

Davies' reported injury sweat only adds to the problems in the Rangers defensive unit with Filip Helander and John Souttar already long-term absentees.

Should Davies be unable to feature in the weekend trip to Motherwell it could leave Van Bronckhorst with only Leon King as an out-and-out central defender.

James Sands has been deployed as a centre-back this season under Van Bronckhorst and could be an option to replace Davies if need be.

Otherwise the responsibility could be placed on John Lundstram who played once as a central defender in a back-four in a 2-2 draw with Motherwell last season.

The midfielder by-trade has also featured in central defence on European nights but as part of a central three.
