GRAEME SOUNESS reckons Giovanni van Bronckhorst is under serious pressure to keep his job at Rangers.

The former Ibrox boss admitted Van Bronckhorst is facing major scrutiny as he fears it'll be "difficult for him to recover".

Rangers currently sit seven points adrift of Celtic in the league after the defeat to St Johnstone on Sunday.

Fans were frustrated after the match with boos heard at full-time and a section of supporters calling for Van Bronckhorst to be removed as manager.

The league slip-up comes after a dreadful Champions League campaign as Rangers earned the unwanted title of worst-ever group stage side.

Now, Souness had conceded that Van Bronckhorst's position is under threat as he insisted two wins over Celtic would be the only possible comeback in the league.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Souness admitted: "Undoubtedly he’s a man under pressure.

"Miserable European campaign, losing to Celtic… it’s going to be difficult for him to recover.

"He’s got to beat Celtic twice. Celtic have to slip up.

"Managing Glasgow Rangers isn’t an easy job, as I’m sure managing Celtic isn’t.

"There’s games you’re expected to win simply because, certainly in my day, I could have one player that I bought for more money than the whole eleven players we were playing against. That in itself brought its own pressure.

"Glasgow Rangers are expected to win every game they play and that’s the price on the ticket when you manage that enormous football club. Right now he’s under pressure."
