RANGERS hero Ally McCoist was tonight teased by his commentary partner Jon Champion over the odds for the next Ibrox manager.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was today sacked by Ibrox chiefs who called time on his reign with the club nine points adrift of Celtic at the World Cup break.

McCoist is currently in Qatar working as part of the ITV team covering the World Cup, but commentator and pal Champion couldn't resist a light-hearted dig at McCoist.

While working during the match between Senegal and the Netherlands, Champion mentioned the managerial decision at Ibrox.

And he went on to joke that McCoist hasn't been listed among the favourites for the job with bookies as he teased that STV newsreaders, and The Wheel contestant Helen were priced for the gig.

McCoist had helped the aforementioned Helen to win an £82,000 jackpot on the quiz show - but is not included in the runners and riders for the Ibrox job.

In the on-air roasting, Champion said: "I've got to bring some disturbing news to you, Mr. McCoist, on a day where sadly Rangers parted company with a Dutchman, Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

"I've just had a look at the odds for Rangers' next manager - and you don't feature. Not in the top ten.

"There's a couple of newsreaders from STV in there and a lady called Helen who won a massive amount of money on a TV game show recently but you don't get a mention."

McCoist took accepted the light-hearted jibe with a good nature as he replied: "You've been saving that up, haven't you?

"You had that planned! You thought 'after the hour-mark, I'm hitting him with that!'"

Michael Beale is the current favourite for the job and is priced odds-on at 5/6 with Skybet to become the next permanent Ibrox boss.

Other names in the mix include ex-Bayer Leverkusen boss Gerardo Seoane, former Burnley manager Sean Dyche and Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen.
