Rangers manager Michael Beale says Jon McLaughlin’s inclusion against Dundee United is partly because of his strength in deadball situations.

Allan McGregor has played the majority of league minutes this season but missed out on a recent trip to Dingwall due to illness. McLaughlin kept a clean sheet on that day and has been given the nod for today’s tie at Tannadice.

And speaking to Sky Sports pre-match, the manager highlighted McLaughlin’s strength when defending corners and free-kicks as a key reason for his involvement.

Beale said: “Jon [McLaughlin] is in a good place, it’s nothing against Allan. I just think this game suits Jon and he’s been training well, biding his time. He had an excellent game up at Ross County.”

“I just think Jon on deadballs, he might be able to help us a little bit and I’m expecting that sort of game where set-pieces will be important.”
