Rangers legend Brian Laudrup is looking forward to seeing what Todd Cantwell can bring to Michael Beale’s side.

The midfielder completed a move from Norwich City and signed a long-term deal with the Govan outfit on Monday.

Laudrup dazzled supporters at Ibrox during his four-year stint in Scotland and was an outstanding creative force after being given the freedom to express himself – and he hopes Cantwell can follow suit to raise his game a level or two.

“At his best, he's wonderful to watch,” Laudrup told the Daily Mail. “He's one of those guys who can turn a game on its head with creativity.

“He's brave on the ball, he wants to take players on and can operate in various positions - as a No.10, on the right and on the left.

“The platform will be there at Rangers. His numbers need to get up in terms of goals and assists. He must handle the expectation.

“But he has got the ability. Cantwell needs trust. I know that feeling from my own career.

“While my circumstances were different when playing in Italy, I had a real desire to find a club with a combination of freedom to play and career stability.

“Rangers provided that for me. Maybe it will now be the same for Cantwell.”

Speaking after his move was finalised, Cantwell revealed that the opportunity to challenge for silverware, play under Beale and compete in Europe proved too good to turn down.

“This is a massive club and there is a massive responsibility when you sign for Rangers to be the player that the fans want to see,” the 24-year-old said.

“They want to see a player that works hard and a player that can win them games which is very important and that is something I am hoping I can bring.

“The manager was very clear with me and he laid out exactly what they like about me and what they want from me. As a player that’s all you can ask for is clarity.

“The chance to play in Europe and to win things - that’s why I am here, to win trophies.

“The manager was massive in terms of why I came here. It is really important to have a manager that believes in you and you believe in them.

“Not a lot of players say it but you need to be on board with everything if you want to get the best version of yourself.

“I feel the manager can get that out of me and I am looking forward to working with him.”
