Kyle Lafferty has been tipped for a return to Northern Ireland after his recent Kilmarnock exit on transfer deadline day.

The striker left the club by mutual consent in a decision that was led by the Rugby Park board.

It is understood Lafferty was told to leave due to disciplinary issues.

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes later revealed he was unhappy with the decision to let Lafferty go.

And now Bangor City boss Lee Feeney reckons Linfield could swoop to bring the ex-Rangers and Hearts man back to familiar territory.

"I don't know what Kyle is at right now," Feeney told Belfast Live's That's What I Call Football.

"If David Healy doesn't sign him I don't think there would be too many others looking to bring him in.

"David knows him very well and has had opportunities to get him, but he has never gone and got him.

"I don't know the ins and outs, but Kyle is going from club to club and there is no stability there.

"You don't know what is coming next for him.

"He is a free agent so he can go to anyone, which makes it interesting.

"That's maybe why Healy let wee Jordan Stewart go. Maybe there is something in the works.

"It would be good for the league if Kyle came here. And David is probably the only manager who knows how to handle him.

"You never know, and I am sure David has thought about it.

"I'm sure other Irish League clubs would get the backing to bring Kyle in.

"Fans would help fund it, or board of directors would find money.

"Whether Kyle would fancy that, I don't know.

"He has done some travelling over the years and played in different countries."

On the decision to let Lafferty go, McInnes explained: “It wasn’t perfect for me. The timing was awful to be honest but it was a decision made above me, between the board and Kyle.

“Unfortunately it left us short on what we were trying to get but we move on. I really enjoyed working with Kyle and we wish him well but unfortunately for us the timing wasn’t great.

“I feel as if he’s somebody I’ll always be there for and I’ll keep the relationship with him, but unfortunately I’m no longer going to be his manager and we move on.”
