Rangers are reportedly plotting a summer transfer move for Preston No1 Freddie Woodman.

The keeper, 25, is claimed to be on the radar of Michael Beale as a possible future Ibrox stopper.

The Scottish Sun claims Rangers scouts have watched Woodman on numerous occasions this season including against Coventry City on Tuesday.

Woodman - who joined Preston from Newcastle last summer - already has experience in Scotland having played for Kilmarnock and Aberdeen in loan spells.

Now, it's reported he could make a permanent switch north of the border - but only if Rangers stump up the cash for a transfer fee.

It's claimed Preston will consider transfer bids in the summer, but Woodman won't be sold unless a significant offer is received.

Leicester and Leeds could challenge Rangers for Woodman's signature though with the Premier League duo also linked with a summer swoop.

Beale has been widely expected to dip into the transfer market for a goalkeeper in the summer.

So far, he has chopped and changed between Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin this season while also talking up prospect Robby McCrorie.

McGregor's contract is up in the summer and could again leave Ibrox, McLaughlin has another year on his current deal.

Meanwhile, James Sands returned to New York City FC last night from Rangers.

Beale said: "I would like to thank James for his time at Rangers. He was a well-liked player in our squad and I enjoyed working with him on a daily basis. I believe he will go on to have an excellent career.

“The opportunity to return to NYCFC for the start of the MLS season, where he will be a key player in their squad, was something that we felt was correct for all parties. Everyone at Rangers wishes him well moving forwards.”

Sands added: “I would like to thank Rangers for the fantastic opportunity to play with a top-notch European team.

"Reaching the Europa League final, playing in the Champions League, and winning the Scottish Cup are just a few of the many positive memories that I will take away with me.

"The level of support from the Rangers’ fans is second to none."
