Steven Gerrard admits he can't wait to face off against Celtic this weekend as part of a Liverpool legends squad.

The former Rangers manager will line up for his former side at Anfield and face off against a Hoops XI in the charity contest.

One-hundred per cent of the proceeds raised will support a range of LFC Foundation's and partner charities' programmes, including schools, inclusive sports, social action, health and wellbeing, and food poverty.

Speaking on Instagram ahead of the fixture, Gerrard said: "Morning Reds. I'm really looking forward to this Saturday to play against Celtic in support of the Forever Reds and The LFC Foundation.

"Hopefully see you all soon. Bye Bye."

The clubs - linked by players, managers and 'You'll Never Walk Alone' - will be backed by supporters inside Anfield for the event with both major backing from Liverpool fans and designated seating for Celtic supporters.

Celtic Legends will be managed by Paul Lambert and captained by Stiliyan Petrov with Artur Boruc, Mikael Lustig, Joe Ledley and Robbie Keane among those in the playing squad.

Matt Parish, chief executive of LFC Foundation, said: “We are pleased to announce our seventh home Official Legends Charity Match against Celtic Legends next year and we are very much looking forward to welcoming the LFC family to Anfield for a fun-filled afternoon.

“I’m always overwhelmed by the support and generosity we receive that enables us to support more children, young people, and families in underserved communities across the Liverpool City Region and beyond thorough our programmes and our charity partners.

“Both clubs have a shared history and I’ve no doubt that the Legends will put on a fantastic and competitive display of football for all to enjoy. “

Celtic FC Foundation chief executive Tony Hamilton, said: “It’s an honour for us to work with Matt and his team at Liverpool FC Foundation on this charity match, as we celebrate a wonderful relationship between the two clubs.

“We are very grateful to be confirmed as one of the beneficiaries of the match proceeds as this will make a huge difference to our work challenging poverty and promoting inclusion.

“And we look forward to bringing together a host of Celtic favourites to take on their Liverpool counterparts on March 25 in what I’m sure will not only be a wonderful spectacle but also a hugely heart-warming occasion filled with special memories.”
