Scott McTominay was a standout performer for Scotland during the international break.

The Manchester United midfielder bagged a brace in wins over Cyprus and the historic triumph against Spain at Hampden.

Now, he's been linked with a temporary switch to Rangers, with one from Ibrox ace suggesting a move would "make more sense" than a move to a Premier League club.

While McTominay has been a regular in the Scotland side under Steve Clarke, game time at United has at times be hard to come by - especially since the arrival of Casemiro from Real Madrid.

And former Rangers ace Craig Moore reckons a loan switch to Ibrox could suit McTominay, the Ibrox side and Manchester United who wouldn't be strengthening any Premier League competition by sending him north of the border.

However, a major stumbling block for any possible move would come with the financial aspect. United would have to stump up a huge chunk of his wages to accommodate a Rangers switch.

But, last season Rangers lured Aaron Ramsey to Ibrox on loan with Juventus picking up the majority of the financial burden of the Wales international's deal.

Discussing a Rangers swoop for McTominay - who has been linked with Newcastle - Moore said on the Go Radio Football Show: “He would be amazing for Rangers. He has a physicality and a presence. He does the simple things well. He’s not a fancy player but he does the basics very well.

“He’s obviously a wonderful professional because you don't spend that length of time at Manchester United without being a fantastic professional.

“I don’t know what Rangers are looking at but to see someone like McTominay and it would only be a loan because that’s the only way a deal would be possible - would be great. But Man United would probably swallow a large part of that bill.

“It would make more sense, the loan scenario, being in Scotland and if it was Rangers domestically, Man United don’t want to strengthen their competitors.

Meanwhile, Celtic hero John Hartson admitted McTominay would be a terrific signing but cited the financial contribution required to seal a move.

He said: “He’d be a great signing if they could get him and it would be a loan. But my guess is that he’s on £90 - £100k a week at Manchester United.

"If they could split the wages then he'd be a fantastic player, of course. Would he want to leave Man United and start afresh at a Newcastle or Chelsea or whatever?”
