Dr Mark Waller is excited for what the future will bring after sealing a return to Rangers as the Premiership club’s director of medical and performance.

The 65-year-old previously worked at the Govan outfit as the doctor for the first team until deciding to up sticks and join Leicester City last summer, where he served as head of medicine.

Dr Waller enjoyed a 17-year stint at Liverpool before moving to Rangers and counts Aston Villa, Hull City and England Under-21s among his former roles.

“I am delighted to return to Rangers as director of medical and performance,” Dr Waller told the club’s website.

“This club holds a special place in my heart after the journey we embarked on as a team back in 2018, and I look forward to working closely with the manager and the entire backroom team as we continue our preparations for what promises to be an exciting campaign.

“The responsibility that I feel to serve as director of medical and performance at this great club is immense, and I am hugely optimistic about what the future holds both on and off the pitch.”

Meanwhile, Rangers face fresh competition from European clubs for the signature of Bordeaux striker Josh Maja as Michael Beale’s rebuild at Ibrox continues.

The former Sunderland attacker is said to be on Beale’s wish-list as the Englishman looks to add more attacking reinforcements to his squad after Sam Lammers joined in a £3.5million move from Atalanta earlier this month.

Maja chipped in with 17 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions last term and the forward is attracting interest with his contract in France set to expire.

Rangers are believed to be weighing up a move for the striker but they are not the only club considering a move for Maja, with English Premier League outfit Fulham, Anderlecht of Belgium and Spain’s Real Valladolid also reportedly interested in securing the 24-year-old on a free transfer.

Dutch outlet Voetbal Nieuws report that Anderlecht, who previously showed an interest in Maja two years ago, are once again considering a move for the Englishman, with the report also crediting Rangers, Fulham and Valladolid with an interest in signing the player this summer.
