Ianis Hagi has shared an emotional farewell statement with fans after his Rangers exit.

The midfielder, 24, left the Ibrox club to join La Liga club Alaves on loan for the season.

Hagi had been frustrated over limited game time at Rangers after his return from a year out through injury.

And now, he has sparked fears over a permanent exit with fans concerned his farewell message signalled the end of his time at Rangers.

Alongside a highlight video on Instagram, Hagi wrote: "Gers, where should I start?

"I was just a kid signing for this amazing, unique football club and my dream was to represent the club in the best way possible on the European stage and deliver trophies, because ultimately that’s what I thought will make me fall in love with the club and make me happy.

"Well, I managed to do that, but that wasn’t it. It was you, the fans! The unconditional support, the pressure, the songs, the traveling and most importantly the way you defended our home, Ibrox. The one stadium in the world that can fly for a full 90 min. Ibrox baby, it’s just different! 💙

"This is definitely not a goodbye, we’ll meet again someday I’m sure, but until then, go smash it!

"Once a Ranger, always a Ranger! 🫡💙 Love Ianis"

Fans were concerned Hagi's farewell suggested a permanent exit rather than just the loan deal confirmed by the clubs.

One wrote: "Seems like a goodbye when it’s only a season long loan? Hopefully you’ll be back with a Rangers top on and not just as a fan."

Another commented: "Good luck Ianis but please make it only a temporary move and come back next season a pull on the famous blue Jersey again. Once a ranger always a ranger"

And a third commented: "This sounds like it’s more than a loan 😢"

A Rangers statement confirmed: "Everyone at Rangers wishes Ianis well for his loan spell which provides him with a fantastic opportunity for regular football having spent almost a year out through injury."
