Rangers endured a difficult night in Eindhoven as they exited the Champions League in the play-off round to PSV. Rangers fell to a 5-1 defeat in Holland with PSV progressing into the group stage 7-3 on aggregate.

Here's how the players rated on a dreadful night.

Jack Butland: Brilliant save to deny Sangare on 32 minutes with an outstretched leg. It was a tremendous save but Rangers didn't learn their lesson and he had no chance with Saibari's opener just minutes later. Pulled off a fine low save to deny Saibari a hat-trick before palming away a dangerous effort from Bakayoko. Kept the score mildly respectable. 7

James Tavernier: Faced up against the dangerous Noa Lang and defended well early on, but poor communication with Cifuentes led to PSV's opener. Allowed Luuk de Jong to run off him for PSV's second and he will be disappointed with his defensive display. Tavernier's attacking numbers are astounding and he notched another goal at the back post, but it was little consolation. 5

Connor Goldson: Won his aerial duels in the first half and played two brilliant pinpoint diagonal passes. Was let down by his teammates for PSV's opening two goals, but it was perplexing that he didn't mark de Jong for the host's third. Calamitous error for his own goal. 4

John Souttar: The Scotland international has enjoyed a largely impressive start to the season, but he's been culpable for a number of goals and it was the same tonight. Switched off and allowed Saibari to run off him for PSV's second. 5

Borna Barisic: Often derided for his defensive deficiencies, Barisic was solid against the menacing Bakayoko in the first half. There was one anxious moment when he seemed uncomfortable using his right foot, but he was bailed out by Butland. Sustained a hamstring injury and was replaced by Dujon Sterling on 50 minutes. 6

John Lundstram: Trusted once again on the big occasion, Lundstram was assigned with shielding the back four. Made a good block early in the second half after initially failing to clear. Lundstram's athleticism has been a major asset to Rangers on the European stage, but he failed to replicate those performance levels. 5

Nicolas Raskin: Extremely fortunate to avoid a booking for an early foul on Ismael Saibari. Uncharacteristically slack in possession on several occasions in the first half and failed to release Matondo through on goal. Raskin has been excellent for Rangers since arriving in January but endured a rare off night. 5

Jose Cifuentes: Deployed on the right of the midfield four and was tasked with providing protection to Tavernier. There seemed to be a lack of communication at times, however, and Cifuentes allowed Veerman to run off him and that's unacceptable at this level when fine margins are so decisive. Struggled last week and it was another disappointing display. 4

Todd Cantwell: Very press resistant and helped Rangers retain possession but should have released Dessers on 25 minutes. Tasked with linking the midfield and attack, Cantwell struggled to get involved in the game in the first half but he produced a stunning pass to release Sam Lammers for Rangers' goal, as he highlighted his creativity. 6

Rabbi Matondo: Rewarded for his impressive recent form with a start and embarked on a brilliant run in the opening stages. Received the ball in some promising areas in the first half but his final product was poor and Teze was physically dominant against him. His pace was a major threat on the counter-attack and came agonisingly close when he smashed the post on 75 minutes.

Cyriel Dessers: Very isolated during the first half but he also struggled to hold the ball up at times. Dessers was released by a brilliant pass from Goldson on 32 minutes, but he looked cumbersome and spurned a great opportunity. Has shown signs of promise in recent weeks but he needs to show more. 4

Substitutes

Dujon Sterling: Replaced the injured Barisic and he faced an unenvious task against the excellent Bakayoko. PSV enjoyed more joy down Rangers left after Barisic departed and Sterling will need to produce a better performance if he starts on Sunday .

Sam Lammers: Excellent pass across goal to set up Tavernier's goal and showed some nice touches. 5

Danilo: Almost connected with a James Tavernier free-kick and deflected effort forced Benitez into a save. 3

Ryan Jack: Replaced Matonodo late on. 3
