Everything Michael Beale said to the BBC after the 1-0 loss to Celtic at Ibrox.

How do you react to that?

Yeah, it's been a rough week. Today I thought the performance merited more in the game. I thought we started the game quite well. Obviously, we score an offside goal. And then the VAR call. I think having looked back - the Celtic player kicks Cyriel. It's a harsh call, certainly. When the referee goes and looks it, I think that's one that's gone against us there. Having said that, after that there's a lot of time to play in the game. I thought we looked dangerous. The goal is an error on our part, a huge error everyone can see that and in the second-half we pushed and pushed. We had two or three good moments, but for the amount of possession we had you'd like us to be a little bit more inventive and also to be a little bit more ruthless because the chances were there. It’s a desperately disappointing day for everybody.

I think you said that this game may help set the narrative for the season. What narrative is that?

We're behind and we have a lot of catching up to do. The two teams on the pitch today, it depends who you favour, but I thought we were strong in the game. There's areas, certainly we can improve on, but I thought the players in the second-half especially chased the game and gave everything they had. We had the moments. We were in front of Joe Hart two or three times and our last pass or shot wasn't good enough today, and that's where the frustration is. The team's going to have to, and the staff as well, bite down on that and come back stronger after the international break.

What do you say to that support, who are clearly frustrated at what's transpired over the course of the week in such big games?

Well, I completely understand there's a lot of anger. There’s a lot of weight in the shirt. The expectations are high. We want the expectations to be higher, the fans are disappointed in the results.  It's no different at Rangers than everywhere else. I think that the fans today, they stuck by their team for a long, long time in the game and pushed them on. And it's natural at the end of a derby if you don't get the result at home for the fans to show some frustration.

Going back to the incident that led to Kemar Roofe scoring the goal that didn't count. I believe it's been discussed a lot on our program. I believe the rule actually is that if you plant your leg that is actually an imposition - and that's why it was given. How do you feel about that?

It's still Dessers that plants his foot. Lagerbielke kicks the back of his heel. He may have pulled back to kick the ball, but he's he's kicked Cyriel. So, I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I think that one's gone against us today. I think it's a tough call. After that, there's a lot of the game to play. We conceded a really poor goal for us. That's for everyone. At a moment in the game where we would probably be in the ascendancy second half, we had enough of the ball and enough opportunity to make up for it and we didn't. So there's our frustration on that. But I think that call was harsh.

Where do you go from here?

Well, we have to dust ourselves down and come back. We know we need to go on a run. It's the fourth game of the season - that's what we'll say. There's 34 games to go. We know we're going to need some really big days in the weeks and months ahead. But the most important thing is focusing on getting this group consistently plan at a stronger level than maybe it is right now. I thought the effort in the second-half was good. But I thought for the amount of possession we had you'd like to create a little bit more. Having said that, both Sam Lammers and Danilo have big opportunities for us.

Do you regret the approach at all?

Listen, you can always do things differently and I think we went with a really bold attacking team with Rabbi Matondo, Cyriel Dessers, Todd Cantwell and Kemar Roofe. That then was added to by the boys that come off the bench. So, I think we threw everything at it. The team we had on the pitch at the end of the game, we had almost five attackers on the pitch and we had a right go. Both full backs were higher. That left us vulnerable on occasion on the counter-attack. But we chased the game. We had the moment. We had more moments and we didn't take them.
