Everything the manager had to say during today's post-match press conference.

What did you make of that?

I thought we started really well and got control, we had good energy with four forwards and scored a fantastic goal, really good play from Sam and Tav. It wasn't the first time we'd got down the side of St Johnstone and it's an excellent goal. A great finish and then in that moment with the injury the game stopped and they lost one to concussion and Danilo has fractured his cheekbone. We have to see how long he's out for but he's got a fracture on his face and he's away and hopefully will be operated on this evening. It's a really disappointing moment for the team that because Dani has had a couple of bits going on, two weeks to get fit, goes and scores and it was a real big moment for him to get the injury at that time. After that, I thought the game got a bit stuffy because it lost momentum. Second half I thought we created more good chances than we took but I'm delighted with the goal because it was an excellent goal as well. Great pass from Tom and Rabbi has been getting those chances quite frequently of late. It was nice to see him take one because he deserves it.

Was today just about winning?

I was happy enough I've come here a lot and it's difficult. The pitch is one of the more difficult, it was a bit sticky and I thought Steven [McLean] mixed things up, he went with Kane, brought on May and tried to make it about the battle of the centre-forwards vs centre-halves. Nico and John did well in front and Ben Davies had a particularly good game, the first of the season. Ridvan grew into it. The story of today is Tom [Lawrence's] first start in over a year, to play 90 minutes is a big testament to the work that he's done with the medical team. This was a game we'd earmarked three or four weeks ago as the one he was going to come back in. Kemar Roofe playing 90 minutes as well, that's not happened in a long time. There are two key things to add to the game. I was pleased overall because it's our third clean sheet in five league games, another away from home and Jack [Butland] hasn't had too much to do. They probably had one big chance at the start of the second half but other than that we've not had too much to deal with. The game was scrappy at times we still have work to do but it's a 2-0 win and was quite comfortable.

Any rough timeline on Danilo?

Yeah, I just asked the Doc and he gave me the news which isn't great, in terms of the timescale we will need to look to see. You could see from the swelling right away it was a bad one. There's nothing in it, both boys are challenging for the ball. It was a really nice goal, some bits we've been working on so I was delighted with the actual move.

Real bravery to get his head on it?

Yeah, it's something he's got in the box he's that type of striker with his movement. Kemar playing close to him as well, you've always got two in there and Tom's a good runner in the box. It was an area we targeted up and around their centre-backs that's why we brought Abdallah on, we felt the movement down the sides... The VAR call is so tight, I thought it would be given. The aim was to play down the sides of the centre-backs with two close together and I thought that won the game really.

How much do you need the fans on Thursday?

Every team does of course. In the two home European games this season we've scored four goals and had big chances to score more. Real Betis were sixth in La Liga, they have a manager who's been around a hell of a long time. They're a good side, you look at who they have and what they've done. It's important we're up and at them, the fans are with us and we have four games at home in 10 days across three competitions, Our focus is on Betis and it will be a completely different challenge to today. We always need our fans because you saw today I thought they were excellent for the team throughout.  Well done to them today because it's not been a nice couple of weeks for them either.
