Andy Halliday has suggested Todd Cantwell might not be "as fancied" at Rangers under Philippe Clement.

The former Norwich midfielder has become a fan favourite at Ibrox since his switch to Glasgow in January.

However, after Cantwell was substituted at half time in the Viaplay Cup semi-final against Hearts, Halliday has questioned whether the midfielder has fallen down the pecking order.

While caveating the suggestion in admitting it's early days for Rangers players under Clement, Halliday said on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: "The Todd Cantwell one is pretty funny because it seems as if he's not as fancied by Philippe Clement.

"I know we're very, very early in saying that but to bring him off at half time for tactical reasons was quite an interesting one."

Explaining the decision to sub Cantwell for Wright, Clement previously said: “It was more a tactical one, more so with his yellow card, I didn’t want to take chances with that.

“With Scott we know also he has energy. I want to rotate with the two of them like I have done the past two weeks because I want fresh players up front who can make directions but also do the defensive job.

“So just a tactical one, nothing special.”

Halliday - who was on the bench for Hearts at Hampden - then admitted Sam Lammers hasn't quite lived up to expectations at Rangers yet even if there have been improvements in recent weeks.

"I thought he did fine," said the midfielder of Lammers' display against Hearts. "I think he has shown some lovely periods of play and some lovely touches but not affected the game enough. I think last week was his first goal in 16 appearances, you look at the plethora of chances he has had this season - you could make a YouTube compilation and it would last ten minutes. You then see that's why he's maybe only scored nine goals in the past four years.

"With the output of £3.5m that Rangers have paid you're expecting a pretty hefty goal return by the end of the season but you'd certainly like to think there is more to come from him.

"And of course Dessers is probably going to find himself on the bench for a little while because since Danilo has come in I just see a real striker in there. Even yesterday, although he didn't have a major impact on the game I think his ability to find space even against compact teams is impressive."
