Andy Halliday believes Rangers will have regrets after not making a move for Celtic winger Luis Palma over the summer.

The Honduran international was snapped up by Brendan Rodgers' side for £3.5million from Greek Super League side Aris.

Palma has since impressed for the Hoops, both domestically and in Europe, but it could have been so different for him with Rangers also linked to his signature over the summer.

At the time of interest, former Rangers manager, Michael Beale said: “There was nothing between me and the player.

“It was very late into last season, early into pre-season when someone from his club was pushing him around and we could have taken him on loan maybe with an obligation (to buy) at the time, but it wasn’t one we were willing to do.”

Ex-Rangers midfielder Halliday has been hugely impressed by Palma's impact in Scotland and he feels he is the type of player his former side could do with in their ranks.

Reflecting on Celtic's thumping win over Aberdeen at the weekend, Halliday told Clyde Superscoreboard: “Well, you know, I like a team goal and a bit of magic. So I’ve went for Oh’s goal and you can probably guess why.

“The ball in from Luis Palma. I’ve said a few times that Rangers might live to regret not getting him over the line during the summer.

“I think we’re starting to see why. I think he’s showing real, real quality and that ball in for the first goal is moment of the weekend as well as goal.”
