Borna Barisic is confident Rangers can continue to go from strength to strength and set their sights on further silverware successes this season.

Philippe Clement’s side lifted the first trophy of the term on Sunday as James Tavernier netted the only goal of the game in the League Cup final against Aberdeen. The Hampden heroics came just days after the historic win in Seville that secured a place in the last 16 of the Europa League.

Clement has overseen a remarkable transformation in fortunes since he replaced Michael Beale as manager and the Belgian will now look to maintain the momentum in the Premiership after seeing the dynamics of the title race change in their favour in recent weeks.

Rangers return to action against St Johnstone on Wednesday evening and Barisic knows every fixture is a must-win one at present given the significance of each match to their aspirations of bringing the league flag back across Glasgow.

Barisic said: “I mean the players in the building know how they achieved this. It has not happened overnight.

“But in two months we have travelled so far and that is a very good thing. It has happened very fast but I think everyone can see now that we are a team on the pitch. We just want to continue to grow and I think we still have space to grow as a team. But we are going in a good way and that is a good sign.

“We are doing good things. We have grown so fast but there is still space to grow even more. We just need to keep going and things will come for us. But we will just look at the next game right now and only the next game. That’s the way we are going to have success.

“I am happy. I cannot say anything else. I think [the manager] is doing very well. But it’s not just about what I think — our results show how we are playing.

“We have faith in [the manager] and he has faith in us and for now everything is perfect. We just want to keep going because it’s not even the middle of the season. At Rangers a lot of things happen very quickly but there’s still a lot of things to do. We need to be proud and have confidence but keep two feet on the ground.”
