Steven Gerrard aimed an X-rated response at one of his players after a boozed up request for a new contract, it has been claimed.

Former Rangers player Greg Stewart revealed Gerrard gave his appeal for a new Ibrox deal short shrift during title celebrations.

Appearing on Open Goal, Stewart admitted he demanded a new deal during boozy celebrations after clinching the Scottish Premiership title in 2021.

The former Dundee and Aberdeen ace revealed he enjoyed celebrations at Ibrox alongside then-manager Gerrard.

But his request for a new contract during the jubilant scenes was brushed off by Gerrard in an X-rated response.

"Sitting with a whisky, f***ing amazing, man," said Stewart of celebrations of the title win.

Ex-Rangers midfielder Halliday then added: "He goes for it, I'm telling you."

Chuckling, Stewart then revealed his boozy discussion with Gerrard: "I was like that, 'Geez a f***ing new deal, you'. And he was like that, 'F*** off you fat c***'."

Stewart signed for Rangers in 2019 on a two-year deal and left the club after the title success in 2021. He then moved to Indian Super League club Jamshedpur before a transfer to Mumbai City.

The 33-year-old has recently been linked with a move back to the Scottish Premiership after returning from India.

Further detailing the celebrations the title triumph at Ibrox, Stewart said: "Tonto mate. Honestly. We were in the stadium and I can mind FaceTiming you [Halliday] after the game against St Mirren.

"We were sitting with Jimmy Bell and we had a whisky and on FaceTime to you."

Halliday added: "Aye, I would have been [sitting in the house]. The first person who FaceTimed me was Alfredo Morelos. He doesn't speak English. I answered it and he's there celebrating.

"Then I don't know if it was Greegsy [Allan McGregor], you [Stewart] or Jacko [Ryan Jack] after that FaceTimed me and that's when you were celebrating."
