Santos boss Fabio Carille has revealed he will not play Alfredo Morelos until he gets fully fit.

But he's backed the former Ibrox striker to come good in Brazil...because he managed a team who played against him at Rangers.

Morelos has agreed to stay on with the relegated famous old club, despite them playing their football in the second tier of Brazil for the first time this season.

The Colombian striker was left out of their first match of the season against Botafogo SP and won't play in their derby against Palmeiras this weekend either.

And Santos' former Corinthians manager Carille is convinced Morelos will still have a part to play this season, having been in charge of a team that lost 4-2 to Rangers in the Florda Cup in 2018 where the striker scored a double.

He said: "I think it may take a while for Alfredo to become fully fit because he is still recovering from the impact of a calf injury he suffered last year.

"He won't play in our next two games for sure.

"Look, he played for seven years in Scotland and it's difficult to play there. You need to be tough.

"I actually came up against him once in a tournament in Florida when I was manager of Corinthians and he was playing for Rangers.

"He's a guy with a lot of speed, he throws himself between the defenders and is intelligent in the way he receives the ball in space.

"Morelos has all the tools needed to do what he does best, which is score goals. He will be a very important player for us this season."
