Rangers have completed a £4.5m transfer deal to sign Mohamed Diomande.

The 22-year-old has finalised a long-term contract until 2028 as Ibrox as he moves from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland.

Diomande first joins Rangers on a loan until the end of the season but with the Ibrox club holding an obligation to buy in the summer.

It's understood Rangers will pay in the region of £4.5m to complete the deal for the midfielder - who becomes Philippe Clement's second signing of the January transfer window after Fabio Silva.

Diomande's arrival in Scotland had been delayed due to Storm Isha, but the deal was never in danger of falling through despite the prolonged wait for official confirmation.

As his signing was officially confirmed, Diomande commented:“I am very excited to join such a historic club and I’ve heard a lot of good things about the team.

“I had a lot of great conversations with the manager who told me about his plans for the team and where I would fit in, which helped convince me that Rangers was right for me.

“I really can’t wait to get started, join up with my teammates, and run out at Ibrox for the very first time in front of the Rangers supporters.”

And Rangers boss Clement added: “I am really pleased to have been able to add Mohamed to our squad, and I am excited to see what he can bring to our team.

“In our conversations and what I have seen of him as a player, I believe he will be a real asset to us, not only in what remains of this season, but in the seasons to come also.

“I look forward to welcoming him to Glasgow, and to working with him on the training pitch soon.”

Club director of recruitment Nils Koppen said: “As a recruitment department, we are very pleased to add Mohamed to our Rangers squad after a long and thorough process.

“After analysing data, video and live games over a long period of time, we are convinced that he will add something extra with his high level of athleticism, creative play and strong defensive work.

“I look forward seeing him play in a Rangers jersey and be a part of the amazing Rangers family.”

The arrival of the midfielder comes as Clement will be without Abdallah Sima long term with the winger - on loan from Brighton - injured on international duty with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.

On Sima, Clement said on Wednesday: "Abdallah had his operation and the surgeon was really happy with the way it went.

"It was a good operation and everything went well. He will be out for between two and three months.

"He is positive and he is someone who is always working hard so we expect him to be back as fast as possible in a healthy way of course.

"We can count on him at the end of the season."
