Philippe Clement has insisted the "door is always open" for Steven Davis at Rangers after the midfielder announced his retirement.

The 39-year-old, who played for the Ibrox club across two different spells, has struggled with injury problems in recent times after suffering knee ligament damage in December 2022.

And he confirmed it is the "right time" to hang up his boots.

Clement gathered the players and staff inside the Rangers Training Complex to play tribute to the Northern Irishman and confirmed he would still love to have Davis "around the building".

The Belgian said: "Okay, boys, there are a lot of people here and more than usual. It is an important moment because Davo (Davis) has made the decision to stop with football and it is never an easy decision.

"You guys are really lucky you can still do it and it was really important for us to let him go, not permanently because the door is always open here and we have spoken about that already a few months ago, that we would love to have him in the building but that is a decision he can make in the next couple of weeks or months.

"We want to let him go in a really good way and thank him for the amazing things he has done so I think we need to start with a big applause for him."

And Davis also addressed his team-mates and members of staff at the club, stating it has been a "special" journey.

"Just well everyone is here it is a good time for me to thank you all," he added. "It has been a special journey and I want to thank you personally for the support you have given me.

"It is such as special club to me and the amazing people who work here. There could not have been a better place for me to end my career."
