Rangers boss Philippe Clement has criticised St Mirren's pitch, claiming "no one can play good football" on the surface.

The Ibrox side ran out 1-0 winners in Paisley thanks to a first-half strike from Cyriel Dessers.

And while Clement did not feel the visitors were at their best, he was willing to make an exception given what he deemed to be tough conditions.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "It is a tough afternoon, but it is because of the circumstances. Anyone can see that you cannot play good football.

"Even if you put Barcelona or Man City on that pitch then you would still not see fine football as it is not possible.

"It is a pity for the game, and spectators, as it is more kick than rush. I do not think people want to see too many games like that anymore.

"The most important thing is that the team adapted. We played a different game than we normally played but we won and had control of the game.

"We only missed the second goal to kill the game in the second half but we were never really in trouble so that is important.

"If you want to win trophies and get a lot of points then you need to adapt to situations.

"We play and train in better circumstances, so the players showed their resilience, hunger and desire to get a result and that is major."
