Kris Boyd has urged Rangers to make sure John Lundstram signs a new deal at the club.

The former Ibrox striker has hailed Lundstram as "excellent" since the arrival of Philippe Clement and demanded a new contract be sorted.

Philippe Clement previously spoke out about the contract situation with a number of players out of contract in the summer including Lundstram.

And Boyd is hopeful Clement's strong words on the situation not happening under his watch starts with a new deal for Lundstram.

The Sky Sports pundit commented: "When we speak about John Lundstram, we spoke about the players coming out of contract. I think Rangers need to get him tied up, they need to find a way to get him signed.

"By all accounts, he loves it here and you can see he is enjoying his football, they need to find a way because since the manager has come in he has been excellent."

He added: "For the manager to look at it and say it's not good enough for the football club for players at that level to be coming out of contract and it won't happen under his remit going forward, you hope that is true.

"You speak about Celtic and the way they are able to get players tied up, O'Riley, Carter-Vickers another one tied up.

"I think Rangers they need to find a way to get John Lundstram tied down."

Discussing his contract situation, Lundstram said earlier this month: “I have never shied away from saying how much I love the club and I would love to stay but it is obviously between me and the club to sort it out.

“I hope so (it is in the pipeline) of course, but that’s between me and the club, but I would love to stay.”
