Rangers' appeal against Dujon Sterling's red card has been dismissed at a fast-track tribunal.

The Scottish FA disciplinary hearing was held on Thursday and decided the red card was the correct decision.

Rangers had appealed on the grounds of wrongful dismissal but the appeal was thrown out with the sanction re-imposed.

The club will also have to pay a £500 fee after the dismissed appeal.

A Scottish FA disciplinary hearing update confirmed: "Claim Dismissed.

"A1 - Serious Foul Play; the original sanction is re-imposed with immediate effect.

"£500 fee forfeited to be paid within 30 days."

Sterling had been sent off for a challenge on Jack Mackenzie in Rangers' 2-1 win at Ibrox over Aberdeen.

Don Robertson immediately produced a red card and stuck by his decision despite being advised to review the decision at the pitchside monitor by VAR Greg Aitken.

Philippe Clement had said of the red card decision: "That it was a harsh decision for me.

"Dujon slipped and he hits the toes of the opponent. I didn’t see until now many red cards that you touch the opponent at his toes. If I look back, I cannot remember one moment.

"So that is a harsh one and it makes the end of the game difficult but it is also a difficult profession, I know because we need to do it every day in the training to make decisions.

"At the end, the referee decides and we need to accept it."

Aberdeen interim boss Neil Warnock commented: "It makes a change, doesn't it, for a referee to be brave and stick with a decision.

"We don't get that in England!"
