Sam Lammers scored his first goal for FC Utrecht over the weekend with the Rangers forward also contributing a slick assist for his new side.

The 26-year-old returned to Utrecht in his homeland last month after struggling to settle at Rangers following his arrival in the summer under Michael Beale.

However, the striker appears to have hit the ground running back in the Netherlands with three assists and one goal so far from five outings.

And against Fortuna Sittard, Lammers hit his first goal at his new club in a convincing 4-0 victory.

The Dutch forward controlled in the box and attempted to lay off to a team-mate but his pass was intercepted, fortuitously the ball came back to Lammers and he rifled home from a tight angle.

Lammers was the final goal of the Eredivisie rout but earlier in the afternoon he had crafted Utrecht's opener with a defence-splitting pass.

The forward collected in the final third and cut the defence open with a classy through ball for team-mate Taylor Booth to slot home.

Lammers previously revealed he didn't have to leave Rangers for Utrecht. He said:ย "I really didn't necessarily have to leave Rangers, a wonderful club of course.

"But when you notice in conversations how much technical director Jordy Zuidam and the manager Ron Jans wanted to bring me to Utrecht, it made me think.

"That was very, very important to me and I'm really so happy to be here.

"At Rangers, the question was whether I would feature much in the second half of the season. Hence my choice for Utrecht, a club that has always appealed to me.

"I believe that with this team, which has many good players, we will have a great second half of the season.

"I've been given the No.9 jersey and that's the striker's number isn't it?"

A Rangers statement on Lammers' departure last month read: "Sam Lammers has today joined Eredivisie side FC Utrecht on a loan deal until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

"Everyone at Rangers wishes Sam well for his loan spell."
