Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland is "in contention" to be recalled to the England national side.

The 30-year-old last played for his country in 2018 but his form for the Ibrox side has put himself back in Gareth Southgate's plans.

This is according to Sky Sports who claim that the shot-stopper is "in contention to be recalled for the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium".

Butland has nine caps for the Three Lions and could be about take advantage of Aaron Ramsdale's lack of playing time at Arsenal and Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope's injury to return to the fold.

The former Crystal Palace and Manchester United player has thrived under Philippe Clement, keeping 17 clean sheets out of 27 league matches so far.

Butland has reportedly kept in contact with Southgate and took it upon himself to meet the England boss while they prepared for their friendly against Scotland last November.

National team goalkeeping coach, Martyn Margetson, has also been keeping tabs on the Rangers No1.

England are building up to the European Championships where they face a group of Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia.
