Ibrox legend Ally McCoist has named his all time Rangers XI - and there's one notable omission in the starting line-up.

The former Light Blues striker turned pundit was discussing his dream Rangers team while previewing tonight's huge Europa League last 16 first leg against Benfica for TNT Sports.

And as expected the team is predominately made up of players he played with at Ibrox throughout the hugely successful 'nine in a row' period during the 1980s and 90s.

He picks Andy Goram in goal, with a back three consisting of John Greig, Terry Butcher and Richard Gough.

Five men make up the midfield which includes Davie Cooper and Brian Laudrup on either wing and a central trio of Jim Baxter, Graeme Souness and Paul Gascoigne. While up front McCoist decided to pair Derek Johnstone and Ian Durrant - leaving himself to assist the late Walter Smith as manager.

During the selection process, McCoist shares a tale about left wing sensation Cooper and how the Rangers squad stitch up their teammate at his testimonial in 1988.

He recalled: "I have a great story about Coop. His left foot was a wand, an absolute wand. And God bless him, at his testimonial dinner all the boys had to get him a present. And what could we get the man with effectively everything? And I thought 'I know, the one thing that Davie Cooper does not have' and we presented him at the dinner with a right leg!

"We went to one of the shops in the town, got one of the model dummies, took the right leg off it and got it all wrapped up. We presented it to Coop at his testimonial dinner and it went down really, really well."
