The Rangers board are finalising a deal to appoint Kevin Muscat as the club's new head coach.
As it stands, however, he is expected to remain in charge of his current team, Shanghai Port, until the end of the Chinese season on November 22.
That would mean Muscat would miss Rangers' next eight fixtures, the first of which comes this Saturday against Dundee United at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
The team then travel to Norway to take on Brann in the Europa League next Thursday, before returning to league duty a few days later at home to Kilmarnock.

A trip to face Hibernian is then in store on Wednesday, October 29, with a Premier Sports Cup semi-final showdown against Celtic pencilled in the following weekend.
Then, on Thursday, November 6, Roma visit Ibrox in the Europa League, with Rangers heading to Dens Park to face Dundee on the Sunday.
There is an international break after that game, with the Govan club returning to action at home to Livingston on Saturday, November 22, the same day Muscat's Shanghai play their final league match of the season.
If he sees out the campaign in Asia and gets the Ibrox gig, the Australian's first game in charge of Rangers could come on Thursday, November 27, at home to Braga in the Europa League.
