Stevie Smith has explained his Rangers team selection this afternoon.

Dundee United visit Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership, with the under-19s head coach in interim charge of the senior squad following Russell Martin's sacking.

A 1-1 draw with Falkirk last time out was enough for the 39-year-old to lose his job.

From that stalemate, Smith has made three alterations to the starting lineup today.

In come Jayden Meghoma, Thelo Aasgaard, and Oliver Antman, as Nasser Djiga, Connor Barron, and Mikey Moore drop out.

"It was a tough decision because a lot of the players trained really well and caused me a problem," Smith told BBC Sportsound pre-match. "Some players actually surprised me by their levels of training performances.

"Some of them have put themselves into the team. It wasn't an easy decision. But I'm confident the team I've put out can go and get us a result today."

Kick-off this afternoon is at 3pm. Smith will be assisted in the dugout by Brian Gilmour, Rhys Owen, and Sal Bibbo.

Confirmed Rangers starting XI: Butland, Tavernier, Souttar, Cornelius, Meghoma, Rothwell, Raskin, Aasgaard, Antman, Gassama, Miovski.

Subs: Kelly, Aarons, Barron, Chermiti, Bajrami, Cameron, Djiga, Moore, Curtis.
