Steven Smith says he can't comment on any speculation linking Kevin Muscat to the vacant Rangers job.

The under-19s head coach took interim charge of the first team for this afternoon's match against Dundee United. The sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Ibrox.

Thelo Aasgaard opened the scoring for the hosts in the first half before strikes from Kristijan Trapanovski and Craig Sibbald turned the game on its head.

Rangers levelled late on through James Tavernier as the points were shared.

Post-match, Smith was asked live on BBC Sportsound about Muscat.

"Is it your understanding from inside Rangers that Kevin Muscat will be the next manager and that a deal is still to be done?" said reporter Kheredine Idessane.

"I can't comment on any speculation," replied Smith. "I don't get involved in it. If I focus any attention on that, it takes my attention away from the team."

Idessane went on to ask Smith if it would be beneficial to get the new permanent boss in as soon as possible. "It would always be the hope," he continued.

"But if it's not tomorrow, if it's not the following day, I'll just carry on as I have done for the previous 10 days and keep things as normal as possible."
