Kris Boyd believes Steven Gerrard didn't return to Rangers because something changed 'behind the scenes'.
Gerrard, who led the club to the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership title, emerged as the favourite to get the Ibrox job after Russell Martin was sacked.
The Englishman, however, soon withdrew from the process. Boyd, who scored 129 goals in 226 Rangers appearances, recently weighed in on the situation.
"Steven Gerrard, we heard at the time it was the timing, but he jumped on a plane from Bahrain to London in six hours," said he pundit live on Sky Sports on Saturday.
"What’s changed? For me, it was obviously something behind the scenes."

Boyd also gave his verdict on Youssef Chermiti's situation.
Signed from Everton over the summer in a deal that could rise to £10million with add-ons, the striker has yet to score in any of his eight Rangers appearances so far.
"Chermiti’s been brought in from Everton and I don’t see it," Boyd continued. "I really don’t see it.
“I know he’s a young boy, but for that kind of money, you have to come in and rip the league up. He’s not scored, he’s not looked like scoring, so the recruitment is questionable."
Defending Chermiti after Rangers' 3-0 loss to Brann in the Europa League on Thursday evening, head coach Danny Rohl said: "I took him today because I saw a very last high line, and he has power, he can go deep.
"I think that was the reason why I took him. Yeah, but again I come back to the key message today, important is the team performance."
Rangers return to action this afternoon against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership. Kick-off is at 3pm.
