Danny Rohl's full press conference after Dundee United 2-2 Rangers.

Are you angry at having to fight for a point?

My job is now to find the right balance after this emotional game. We can speak about mentality because the team showed fight to the end to get something. On the weekend, we didn’t create a lot of chances - but tonight we had chances for maybe four games. But this is the other part - on Sunday, we got a clean sheet. Tonight we didn’t have. If we could bring the two together, the clean sheet along with the style we played with tonight, we’ll get a lot of points in the future. Of course, we’re disappointed and I can understand the fans; I can take it. But we made a massive step from Falkirk to today.

What do you think of the fan reaction at the end?

I understand the fans’ reaction. They came here on a Wednesday evening, 6000 people and they spend money to come to these games. For me, I have to find the right balance and be a good mirror for this group. If we win games, I’m not too positive and if lose games I’m not too negative. If I see something not going in the right direction, I’m very clear. I said the last game was too slow. We didn’t attack enough. But tonight I saw a team capable of doing it. But it’s about being ruthless in both boxes; that’s the key part. If we do that, we can take steps forward.

Youssef Chermiti missed a big chance for you…

We can also look at other chances in the game. Everyone has to take responsibility on the pitch, in both boxes. If you defend well and score twice, it should be enough to win an away game. That’s crucial. I won’t speak in public about individual performances; I only do that with my group. It’s too easy to put it just on one person. There are a lot of players on the pitch who can help the team win.

Do you have the players who understand what it means here?

I saw a lot of players who stepped up today and asked for the ball more than they have in the past. We played quicker but there were individual mistakes and this is what we have to stop in both boxes. If we do this, we will win more games. I understand that not everyone will agree but our performance today in the offensive was one of the best since I've been here. We created so many chances but it's also partly the defence, and the defence was not strong enough every time.

How confident are you that you can get the best out of this squad?

We work. This is hard work. When I arrived, it was clear it would not happen overnight because it's the job of the manager, make step by steps. Help the players, give them a solution. I think in the past two days we have given them solutions. We played better going forward but we should also not forget the defence. When we bring both together, then I think we will see a team that can step up, step by step. It's a long journey. There are still 23 games to go. It's a long way and we need to work hard every day.

Is the defence your priority for January?

We have to improve the players we have here, and then we have to look at what we can bring on the market. I've said this many times - it's not about how many players, it's about which players and if we find the right ones to bring something different to the group in both directions, then we are in a good way. This is what we have to prepare with the club. I have good people around me who will help me. We do it together and if we make this step by step, then we can develop something special here. I can feel it.

Can you challenge for the title?

I think the key is the balance. After a win, you will ask me if we are back in the race, and after a draw or a defeat, you have the feeling that the world goes under. It's about the journey. The last results in the league are not what we want. Our performance was better than the result, really positive. If I see the reaction after three days of work, it was in the right direction. I know we want to do it quicker. Everyone wants to be straight in that position overnight but that will come.
