Jonathan Hunter-Barrett has landed a promotion with Wolverhampton Wanderers after a switch to Rangers failed to come to fruition.

As previously revealed by The Rangers Review, the Englishman was poised to become the new academy director of the Ibrox club in the new year.

However, after an agreement between the two parties, it was decided that Hunter-Barrett would remain at Molineux.

The 35-year-old has been the academy manager at Wolves since June 2022, and now, he has been promoted to the role of academy director.

Kevin Thelwell, who was sacked as Rangers' sporting director last month, worked with Hunter-Barrett at the English Premier League club.

The move to Glasgow had been due to end a 15-year association with Wolves for Hunter-Barrett, who first joined their academy as a coach in 2011.

David McCallum has been working as the interim head of academy since sporting director Thelwell joined the club in June.

Stevie Smith, previously head of the Under-19s, remains a part of Danny Rohl's staff after managing one game on an interim basis following the sacking of Russell Martin.
