Heart of Midlothian are in talks over a surprise move for ex-Rangers kid Josh McPake.
McPake is currently tearing it up in the Scottish Championship for St Johnstone, having scored 12 goals in 17 games in the second tier this season.
The Premiership league leaders have now set their sights on the 24-year-old and will look to sign him on a pre-contract agreement, reports the Hearts Standard.
McPake penned a long-term deal at Rangers when he broke through under Steven Gerrard.

But he would play just once before going out on loan to clubs north and south of the border. In 2024, he signed a short-term deal with Stirling Albion before joining St Johnstone that summer.
When he officially left Rangers in 2023, McPake wrote a farewell message on X.
"Just want to thank everyone at Rangers including the the players, the fans and all the staff that have looked after me for all these years," he said.
"Loved every minute of being at this club since the moment I walked through the doors. Came as a young boy and left a man. Thank you."
If he joins Hearts, McPake will link up with another former Rangers player, Derek McInnes.
