Tochi Chukwuani has revealed he first heard of Rangers transfer interest in the summer after becoming the club's first signing of the January window.

The midfielder, 22, was aware of a possible move to Ibrox in the summer with interest ramping up in the winter period before his move was made official this afternoon.

Chukwuani, signed for around £4m, even played against Rangers earlier this season for Sturm Graz in the Europa League.

"Actually, it started already in the summer, just hearing some interest," said the midfielder when discussing the timeline of his move.

"It got intensified during the winter period.

"I was happy that it managed to go through."

Asked whether he expected to be a Rangers player just months on from beating the Ibrox club in Europe, he added: "No. But that's how football goes fast.

"We beat Rangers in the Europa League but I could already feel from there how big of a club Rangers is.

"When I spoke with Antman and Diomande, who I played with I could really understand what Rangers was about and why they say, 'We are the people'."

Asked about his knowledge of Rangers before he signed for the club, Chukwuani labelled the Ibrox side as the "greatest in Scotland".

"It's a historic club, huge fan base, huge expectations," he said in a Rangers TV interview.

"Obviously, I knew it was the greatest club in Scotland, and a lot of huge players have played here.

"Paul Gascoigne, Brian Laudrup, I could go on.

"It's a club where there is a lot of history, loads of pressure as well which is lovely.

"It is a fantastic place to be."
