Rangers have reached a verbal agreement to sign Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi.
But the 22-year-old is not expected to arrive at Ibrox on deadline day as the Germans stand firm in their demand for Naderi to remain in 3. Liga until the end of the season.
The Rangers Review understands discussions over the weekend have seen the framework of a deal put in place after Rangers saw initial approaches worth more than £3million rebuffed last week.
One option on the table was for Naderi to formalise his switch before the deadline and then be loaned back to Daniel Brinkmann's side for the remainder of their title challenge. But it is understood that Naderi - who made it clear last week that he wished to make the switch to Scotland - is poised to become a Rangers player in the summer as both parties look to conclude a deal for a delayed arrival.
The Rangers Review reported last week that the Ibrox hierarchy would not be pushed to go beyond their valuation of the player to get an agreement over the line as Danny Rohl targeted an attacking addition before Monday's deadline. Rangers remain active in the market following the arrivals of Tuur Rommens, Tochi Chukwuani and Andreas Skov Olsen earlier in the window.

Rohl hinted last week that the final days of business could be 'crazy' at Ibrox. And the German is now anxiously waiting to discover the fate of striker Cameron Archer as Rangers look to complete a loan move on Monday. Rangers are working on a contingency plan - which could yet involve one last offer for Naderi - as they target a fourth acquisition of the window.
Rohl was quizzed about the possibility of Rangers strengthening in the aftermath of the draw with Hibernian on Sunday. Southampton forward Archer has been a target for some time but his arrival hinges on the Saints being able to find a replacement for Adam Armstrong after he was targeted by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Rangers have an agreement with Southampton and Archer and are in a position to finalise a move before the 11pm close of business. That will only happen if Tonda Eckert adds to his own forward options over what could be a hectic deadline day.
"First, we will see what happens tomorrow," Rohl said. "If something happens, I'm happy. If not, I carry on with my group. They have done a good job so far; this is our job to do.
"In general, I think I have a clear picture in my mind. I saw a group that was growing and growing together. And what I will not do today after this draw is to make everything very dark.
"I think this is also part of this race. It's an exciting one. We are still in the race. No one expected that a couple of weeks ago, we would have this group."
Joel Piroe has been repeatedly mentioned as a possible recruit, but the Rangers Review understands that deal is not on the agenda. Sources on both sides of the border have played down suggestions that Piroe could move to Ibrox and reaffirmed his wish to play in the Premier League for the second half of the campaign.
The Rangers Review revealed on Wednesday that Feyenoord had targeted a move for winger Oliver Antman. The Finnish international will remain at Ibrox as Rangers - like in the cases of Djeidi Gassama and Youssef Chermiti - look to retain their key players for a crack at the silverware this term.
Danilo will be allowed to depart to NEC if Rangers can get an incoming deal over the line. The Brazilian was the subject of a £2million offer from Paphos but a return to the Eredivise held more appeal for the former Ajax, FC Twente and Feyenoord forward.
A loan arrangement with NEC has been agreed but the move will not be signed off unless Rohl is able to add to his attack first. The German does not want to head into the remaining months with Chermiti and Bojan Miovski as his only centre-forward options.
