Neil Warnock has told Rangers how to get the best out of Bojan Miovski and insists the striker should be given more opportunities between now and the end of the season.

Already playing second fiddle to Youssef Chermiti, the Macedonian has seen himself become third choice striker since the signing of Ryan Naderi, though the German faces an injury sweat currently.

Miovski has been given fleeting opportunities off the bench recently and hasn't started since the 5-1 win over Kilmarnock in February, in which he scored. But he served a reminder of what he can do by coming on to net against Dundee United on Saturday.

With Naderi injured and Chermiti misfiring, Warnock wants to see the 26-year-old given a chance.

The veteran boss, who worked with Miovski briefly at Aberdeen, insists he will improve with game time and described him as one of the best strikers he has worked with during his long career.

"If you give Bojan opportunities, he'll definitely take them,” he told the Daily Record . “He can definitely finish.

“He has that instinct about him that all great strikers do. I remember him scoring at Ibrox in my first game in charge. It was a great goal. I said after one game up there that he's one of the best strikers I’d ever worked with and I stand by that.

“We were only together for eight games but there was a spell he was on fire. Everything he touched ended up in the net, whether it was him shooting or doing a dummy for someone else to score.

“But there’s always been a question mark over whether he could actually maintain that. There are times when he goes missing in games. He loses concentration, and he isn't the best at holding it up.

“But don’t think people should worry too much when it bounces off him a little bit. When we were at Aberdeen, we just carried on because he was obviously the best player Aberdeen had by a mile, so we just persevered with him.

“But playing for a club like Rangers, it should suit him. But I do think you have to give him the time to find his rhythm. All strikers need that."

Warnock says Miovski is a player who responds better to an arm round the shoulder instead of tough love.

And he says he is a better bet for goals than his two fellow Ibrox frontmen.

The 77-year-old, now at Torquay United, said: “He’s definitely one of those ones where you’d get more out of him if you put your arm around him, rather than give him a roasting. But he responded and had a good patch while I was there.

“But for me, I think he’s someone Rangers need to preserve with between now and the end of the season.

“I mean, the other strikers up there, they don’t bowl you over with their quality, do they? No.

“Compared to the other two Rangers have for, I’d say Bojan gives them the best chance of getting somebody to score the six, seven, eight goals they’ll need to get over the line.”
