Lewis Ferguson insists he "definitely will" play for Rangers at some point during his career, if the opportunity arises.

The Ibrox club have been constantly linked with a move for their former academy player this summer, but the fact Bologna were looking for €15-20 million always made it a long shot.

On top of that, he has been attracting interest from other clubs in Italy and Europe.

Ferguson is a boyhood Rangers fan which is hardly surprising given his dad is ex-Ibrox midfielder Derek and his uncle is club legend Barry.

And it is a dream of his to some day return to the club and play for them at first-team level. Exactly when that will happen he is unsure, but he is determined to make it happen.

“It’s my favourite team, and I’ve always said I want to play for Rangers. One day, though I don’t know when yet, it will definitely happen if I get the chance," he told Corriere dello Sport.

Club captain of Bologna, Ferguson has a contract until 2028 and there is also an option for an extra year.

Amid all the transfer speculation, he was asked if there was any possibility of extending his deal at the club.

And he insisted: “I haven’t thought about a renewal. My focus right now is football; I don’t want to think about contracts or anything else. Then, if there’s something to discuss, we’ll talk.”
