Rangers youngster Kyle Glasgow has been called up to the Scotland Under-21 squad.

The Rangers Review revealed last night that the talented youngster was to be rewarded for his early-season performances with a place in Tony Docherty's first squad.

The 16-year-old, who has started the season impressively for Alloa in League One, has previously been capped at youth level for Portugal and Scotland.

Glasgow, who signed his first professional deal at Ibrox earlier this year despite offers from England, is a left-footed attacker who can play across the forward line.

Benefiting from the Scottish FA's co-op loan agreement, he has been able to gain exposure to first-team football with Alloa while still turning out for the Rangers Under-19 side.

He's already managed three goals and as many assists for Andy Graham's side.

Glasgow was also part of Derek McInnes' squad for the Europa League play-off tie with Jagiellonia at Ibrox in August.

Now, Glasgow has received a call-up to the Scotland Under-21 squad for their upcoming matches with Bulgaria and Azerbaijan.

Yesterday, Liam Kelly and Findlay Curtis were named in Sébastien Pocognoli's first Scotland squad.

In a recent interview with the Herald, Alloa boss Andy Graham was full of praise for Glasgow.

"If anyone calls him Kyle Fernandes Glasgow around here, that’s a fine! We need to get him playing for Scotland,” Graham said.

“He may only be 16, but he's got the character of an adult for sure. He's got the mindset; that's the most important thing.

“He doesn't get bullied or kicked off the ball at all or anything like that, which a lot of people would worry about. He's the exact opposite - he's more than up for a challenge. But he also moves the ball well; he travels with the ball well.

“We all know the quality he's got, but it's just him going and doing that and replicating that week in, week out and having that consistency, which is what we're searching for with Kyle at the moment, because we know he's got ability. We all know that he's talent and hopefully that's what's going to take him to the top of the game.

“He's just starting out in his career; he’s only 16, but he's been a breath of fresh air and honestly, he's been a great addition to the group.
