If Rangers eventually sign highly-rated Dutch midfielder Joey Veerman, it would represent a real statement of intent and further highlight what has been an already impressive transfer window.

The £7million rated Heerenveen star would be a real coup for Steven Gerrard’s men considering offers made elsewhere from the likes of Hellas Verona in Serie A.

Whether or indeed when they manage to reach agreement over Veerman remains to be seen but as we sit here on Friday 16th July, the acquisitions made to this point have been mightily impressive regardless.

And, I'm not just talking about the summer so far.

To truly assess the business for this season, you have to go back to January with the signings of Scott Wright from Aberdeen and the two young lads from Bournemouth, Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh.

As we’ve seen so vividly with Glen Kamara, being able to bleed Wright and Simpson into the squad for the second half of last season has accelerated their integration.

Ofoborh is a player I am really excited to watch in action, having spoken to teammates of his and those close to him, Rangers have won a proverbial watch in enticing the 21-year-old to Govan.

Keep your eyes peeled on the Rangers Review website for an in-depth article on him in the not too distant future.

Now onto the summer buys, starting off with Fashion Sakala who was finally unveiled yesterday.

You’ll struggle to find a player as loved as this guy despite having not kicked a ball for the club.

From watching his Facebook videos or YouTube videos, he just excudes life and personality.

This is a guy who has fought back from suicidal thoughts to carve a career as a footballer in Russia, Belgium and now Scotland.

Having spoken to former Partick Thistle and Dundee United defender Freddie Frans, now plying his trade in his homeland for Beerschot, he sang his praises singling out his lightning pace and ruthlessness in pivotal moments.

And he certainly knows the way to goal too, bagging 16 goals for Belgian side KV Ooostende last term.

He was wanted by a host of clubs, including several in the Premier League so to acquire his services for nothing is a shrewd piece of business.

John Lundstram has been the other capture that has caught the eye both north and south of the border.

It is a signing that really proves Rangers are back in a good place in that they can tempt Premier League players to Scotland.

A constant performer for Sheffield United under Chris Wilder, I remember watching him in action for the Blades during their 2-1 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road in December 2019 and being mightily impressed with his energy, passing and work rate.

You didn’t play for Chris Wilder unless you burst a gut every single game and Lundstram epitomised that team.

Yes, things went downhill for both he and the club last season but there was consternation behind the scenes that resulted in Wilder leaving and United being relegated.

But, make no mistake, Rangers have signed a proper high-energy powerhouse midfielder with all the attributes that is sure to make him a success at the club.

At 27 years of age he’s in his prime and, like Sakala, wasn't short of suitors.

When you sit back and take stock of the business Ross Wilson and the recruitment team have carried out so far this summer, it wouldn’t be folly to suggest they’ve brought in over £15m worth of talent for absolutely nothing in fees.

Whether Veerman arrives or not, those three signings in particular would represent a very successful window.
