When Glen Kamara eventually leaves Rangers his departure will result in vast sums of cash being pumped into the Ibrox coffers.

The Finn has been a revelation since joining Steven Gerrard's side from Dundee in the January of 2019 for the paltry sum of £50k.

Just how he ended up at Dens Park via Southend is a different matter but there's no question he's blossomed into one of the best midfielders the Light Blues have had in the last 20 years.

This morning, Spartak Moscow were the latest club credited with an interest in the 25-year-old although it's been reported they've since denied this.

Premier League outfits such as Kamara's former club Arsenal along with West Ham, Newcastle and Watford are also said to be monitoring his situation closely.

Kamara has two years of his contract to run and Gerrard has made it clear he's determined to keep his star man at Ibrox.

Earlier this month he said: "I love the kid, I love the player, and I've made it abundantly clear how much I want him to stay from a personal point of view.

"There's a real strong contract offer on the table for Glen, so the speed at which this happens is totally up to Glen - the ball is firmly in his court.

"The offer from the club is really good, his advisers are happy with the offer, so now it is totally down to Glen.

"So the question that you've just asked me should really go in Glen's direction because we are ready and waiting and hoping that it's done as soon as possible."

It's evident Kamara has improved as a player under Gerrard's guidance. He is the best midfielder at the club and one of their most prized assets which is why tying him down on a longer deal makes perfect financial sense.

A figure of £10m has been mooted which for a £50,000 initial investment would prove to be fantastic business.

But Rangers can do so much better. They have a £20m midfielder on their books and shouldn't be looking to sell for lower than that if they can help it.

Yes, you have to factor in the club failing to reach the Champions League and the financial rewards that come with that and the current situation in the transfer market where COVID is still affecting a host of clubs and what they can afford to pay to bring players in.

However, Rangers have a player who looks tailor-made to be sold in two to three years for upwards of £50m.

Historically Scottish football has a habit of undervaluing our players when selling to clubs down south.

Having lived and worked in England for several years, it's always staggering to see the astronomical sums of money being transferred for players, many of which fail to live up to their price tag.

Take Leicester for example, in the summer of 2019 they brought in Dennis Praet from Anderlecht for £17m, the Belgian has been a bit-part player for much of his time at the King Power.

Manchester United splashed out £35m on Donny van de Beek from Ajax and he's struggled to establish himself in the Red Devils' midfield. A good player of course but a deal three times the size?

Just last week Joe Willock left Arsenal to join Newcastle for a reported £25m, you're not telling me he's worth £15m more than Kamara, a player who stood out like a sore thumb at the Euros.

If Rangers do sell their prized asset to the English Premier League they have every right to demand top dollar.

He's not just proved himself to be the best midfielder in Scotland but he's consistently shone on the European stage and for Finland.

That being said, I’m sure every Rangers supporter will be jumping for joy if he pens a new deal and is pulling on that light blue jersey after the 31st of August.
