Glen Kamara has finally put pen to paper on a contract extension until 2025. It's brilliant news for everyone at the club and hopefully first of what will be many extensions signed in the coming months. The biggest of those renewals is Connor Goldson and we have to hope that the contract extension on the table will eventually be signed.

Next summer, Rangers could face a mini rebuild and at some point the management may even move on. Granted, these are ifs and buts, but losing someone like Goldson on a free transfer is another headache we must avoid. So retaining the vice-captain becomes the immediate priority and hopefully, he will sign.

But for now, Glen Kamara has and it’s hugely positive. Glen has proved that he has the capabilities to be a top player and he will earn Rangers big money if he continues to progress in his development. He had a superb summer at the Euros and had some of the highest recovery numbers in the group stages which is vital for his position.

He is the one I look at to provide the energy in the press and move it around quickly, he wins the ball and feeds the others. As Gary McAllister said post-match after our 2-0 victory over Livingston, if Glen can add a goal or two then he could be the most complete midfielder to play for Rangers in many a year.

The positives continue with progression in the cup competition and Hampden is back on the horizon. A really bright second half from Rangers earned that and positively, both Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos got on the score sheet. That’s important and if they can start getting on the goal sheet regularly then Rangers will begin to quickly get over the lack of consistency we have seen during games.

That’s the next challenge, the half against Motherwell, the battling back against St.Johnstone, the second half against Livingston. Put all that together for the complete performance and Rangers will find themselves very close quickly.

When they do zip the ball about and play with purpose, they show how good a football team they are. But it’s still a bit patchy and the worry remains over several players' form. It must also concern the management but they will know that there are several levels for this team to go up before it’s at its optimal limit.

Despite that however, the good news does keep coming. We are top of the league, we are in the cup semi final and we have a healthy advantage over the team who will be our nearest challengers. Yes the frustration comes from our dropped points and we should be in an even healthier position, but there is no time to dwell on any of that. Now is the time to really kick on into gear.

I have a strong belief that the league will run a lot longer and closer than last season. I also believe Rangers could put themselves in a great position if they just manage to string some results together and go on a big run.

It’s the consistency that is needed. The half performances need to be turned into complete performances and when that does happen I firmly believe we won’t be stopped. Trips to Hampden will help that, players returning to form will help that and players signing new contracts will help that.

It’s healthy for Rangers at the moment, just like Goldson’s situation though, it could be better but could turn at any minute. Goldson staying to join Kamara in a new commitment whilst Rangers kick on with better form would certainly be welcome. As we head to Hampden, there’s a thought for us all.

Here’s another also - we haven’t even started yet or hit any form and things aren’t half bad domestically.

I look forward to us hitting the heights we are capable of because when then happens, the rest better watch out.
