ALLAN McGREGOR: Can we stop the debate about whether it’s time for him to hang up the gloves? The 40-year-old kept Rangers in the tie with a number of top-class saves. He could do little with Red Star’s opener after 10 minutes when Ivanic was allowed to rifle home from close range. Tremendous one-handed save to deny Ivanic the second goal just two minutes later. Produced another stunning stop on the stroke of half-time to deny Piccini. Continued in similar form in the second half, tipping away a ball across the face of goal then produced a double save to deny Kanga and Ben from close range before saving a Gajic header. No chance with Red Star's injury-time penalty. 9

JAMES TAVERNIER: Caught on the wrong side of Ivanic who almost grabbed his second goal in as many minutes only for McGregor to tip the effort away. As industrious as ever from the skipper and despite a few shaky moments, he weathered the storm and produced a solid display. 7

CONNOR GOLDSON: Caught in no man’s land for Red Star’s opening goal and sloppy in possession on occasion. Good defensive header away for a corner with Pavkov hovering. Was fully tested but stood up well in the second half. 7

LEON BALOGUN: Mix up between the Nigerian and his countryman Bassey presented Pavkov with a golden chance to make it 2-0, luckily the Red Star forward dragged his shot wide. He and Goldson were under the cosh for much of the evening but despite a few hair-raising moments, the pair defended robustly. 7

CALVIN BASSEY: He and Balogun were guilty of making a mess of a high ball which afforded Pavkov a chance on goal. Driving run towards goal a minute before the break but couldn’t get the space to get a shot away. Another solid performance at left-back. 7

JOHN LUNDSTRAM: A colossal display in the Rangers engine room. Was on the back foot for much of the first half as he tried to plug gaps at the back. While those around him struggled at times, the former Sheffield United man looked assured and imposing. Passing was crisp and precise and he offered a physicality that gave the Light Blues a platform to build. Crucial interception to close down Katai who was looking for an angle in on goal on 69 minutes. Replaced by Barisic on 80 minutes. 8

GLEN KAMARA: He and Goldson failed to close down Ivanic who was allowed time to fire in the opener. Caught in possession on a few occasions in the opening stages as the game seemed to pass him by. Sublime touch into Kent which led to the Rangers equaliser and that seemed to give him confidence going forward although gave away the injury-time penalty and harshly booked in the process. 7

RYAN JACK: Poor distribution at times from the Scotland midfielder and beat too easily by Piccini on the edge of the Rangers box, thankfully McGregor was on hand to tip his shot away. Played the ball out wide to Kent to begin on his journey towards the equaliser. Not a vintage performance but worked his socks off as ever. Replaced by Sands midway through the second half. 6

JOE ARIBO: Made some vital defensive interceptions but struggled to impose himself in an offensive sense in the first half. Offered more intent in the second half before being replaced by Arfield. 7

RYAN KENT: Another vintage European performance from Kent. Won a number of free-kicks in the first half with his quick feet roping defenders into making untimed challenges. Caught on the ball early in the second half that resulted in a Red Star breakaway and another glaring chance to make it 2-0. Touch let him down at times but his equalising goal was nothing short of immense. Picked the ball up in his own half before striding forward, after playing a neat give-and-go with Kamara and then firing into the back of the net with the help of a deflection. 8

ALFREDO MORELOS: Struggled to hold the ball up in the opening stages. Awful distribution when Rangers were on the counter when his pass towards Kent was under-hit and set up a Red Star breakaway of their own. Unlucky with an angled drive from the edge of the area that just fizzed wide of the post. No power in a shot on the turn on 38 minutes. A quiet second half for the Colombian and eventually replaced by Roofe with 10 minutes remaining. 6
