Jens Lehmann: The German stopper was a busy man in the first half. He was called into action on four minutes saving a well-struck Jorg Albertz strike from distance then made a great stop from a Kris Boyd volley seven minutes later. Had to tip a cross-cum-shot from Gregory Vignal over the bar. Produced an outrageous back heel to take Ronald de Boer out the game on the half-hour mark but had no chance with Shota Arveladze’s bullet header that opened the scoring for the Rangers Legends. 7

Michel Salgado: Was on the receiving end of a crunching tackle from Giovanni van Bronckhorst 12 minutes in that left him crumpled in a heap. The Spaniard was always known for having a good engine and that showed with an energetic display down the right-hand flank. 6

Eric Abidal: One of a number of players who look like they could still play at a high-level today and displayed tremendous athleticism. His leap in the air that saw him intercept a crossfield Rangers pass was a thing of beauty. 7

Carlos Marchena: Robust display that was very much in keeping with his playing career. Great diving header to equalise when he connected with a sublime Kaka cross. 8

Jose Bosingwa: Solid defensive showing from the former Chelsea man, no-nonsense although he was caught under the ball for Rangers’ opener. 6

Claude Makelele: Struck the post from the edge of the area in the first half and showed great feet to set up a chance for Makaay but the Dutchman’s touch was too heavy that allowed Marvin Andrews to slide in. 7

Kaka: The Brazilian legend still looked as if he could play in today’s game, he strolled it. Saw a curling effort cannon off the crossbar 11 minutes into the second period before supplying the wonderfully weighted cross for Marchena to nod past Alexander. 8

Luis Figo: Even at 49 years of age, the former Ballon d’Or winner still oozes class. Forced a good save out of Waterreus five minutes before the break. The World XI skipper was left crumpled in a heap following a heavy challenge from Andrews and Papac and being left sprawled on the turf would be a regular occurrence in the second half when the Portuguese was on the receiving end of a number of robust tackles. Should’ve fired his team ahead when he was played in by Kaka shortly after the equaliser but his shot struck Alexander’s legs then minutes later he came close with a volley from close range that Alexander did well to hold. Replaced by Makaay late on to great acclaim from the 38,071 inside Ibrox. 8

Roy Makaay: Rangers’ No.2 came mightily close to opening the scoring with a well-placed effort that cannoned off the post. Received a rapturous applause when replaced by Mijatovic on the half hour mark then reappeared late omn to replace Figo. 6

Ricardo Quaresma: The Portuguese is still a box of tricks (can’t imagine Roy Makaay would tolerate that at Rangers) and looked every inch the sharpest player on the pitch, quite rightly given he’s still playing. Pinged an angled effort on target that Waterreus did well to tip away on six minutes. Curled a fizzing shot with the outside of his boot over the crossbar shortly after and had the crowd gasping when he nonchalantly nutmegged Ronald de Boer to set up an attack. His look of bemusement was a picture when he was denied what looked a clear penalty after being upended in the box on 33 minutes. Eventually got his name on the scoresheet with five minutes remaining with a sublime finish with the outside of the boot into the bottom corner. 9

Gheorghe Hagi: The Romanian legend wowed the Ibrox crowd with some moments of brilliance. He came close with a superbly hit free-kick that Waterreus tipped over the bar on 13 minutes and produced a cheeky backheel to beat Vignal shorty before being substituted in the first half. You can certainly tell where Ianis gets his footballing talent from. 6

Substitutes

Predrag Mijatovic: Replaced Makaay on the half hour mark. The former Yugoslav striker’s appearance was short but not sweet. He suffered a burst nose just minutes into coming on, he gesticulated that he received an elbow to the face as he walked off for treatment. Managed to recover to come on in the second half. 3

Florent Malouda: Replaced Hagi on 34 minutes. Lively showing and came close to equalising when he burst to the byline before firing the ball across goal, Andrews almost turned the ball into his own net and also forced a decent save out of Alexander. 7

Nuno Gomes: Replaced the injured Mijatovic in the first half. His finish for the second goal was magnificent as he coolly lobbed the ball over the despairing Alexander. Replaced immediately afterwards for the returning Mijatovic. 7

David James: Replaced Lehmann at half time and commanded his area well but had absolutely no chance with Gascoigne's late goal...honest. 6

Christian Karembeu: A half time substitute. Not much to write home about from the former World Cup winner, provided some energy in the midfield before blowing a gasket half an hour into the second half to be replaced by Makelele. 3

Robert Pires: Came on midway through the second half. 4

Theo Baker: Apparently, he’s a YouTube star for those in the crowd scratching their head as to who he was or what team he played for. Came on with seven minutes of the match remaining. 1
