Jon McLaughlin: Big call by the manager to keep faith in his goalkeeper. No chance of getting to Alvarez’ header for the opening goal. Produced a top save at his near post shortly after. Nothing he could do with goals two and three as the Rangers backline crumbled like a pack or cards. Was called into action a few times afterwards as Ajax looked to run riot. Slid out to stop Bergwijn but the Ajax man simply rounded him before slotting home goal number four. 6

James Tavernier: A nightmare of a game for the skipper. Caught out of position in the opening stages then proceeded to throw the ball straight out for an Ajax throw on 11 minutes. Beaten too easily by Bergwijn who dragged his subsequent shot wide. Question marks over his lack of marking for the Ajax opener. Caught wrong-side of Kudus for goal number three before the Ajax man unleashed a screamer into the top corner. Subbed at half time due to a calf injury but he can have no complaints if it wasn't injury-based. 3

Connor Goldson: Looked shaky throughout the horror show of a first half. Miss-kicked the ball just seconds in which set the tone. He was often dragged out of position and stretched, often failing to get anywhere close to the Ajax forwards as they laid siege on the Rangers goal. Was far more comfortable as Rangers moved to a back five at the start of the second half. 4

James Sands: Fantastic interception as Ajax looked to capitalise on a Lundstram error but he was to put into his own net shortly after from a Berghuis ball towards goal. Exposed time after time in the first half but looked far more steady as Rangers reinforced the backline after the break. 5

Borna Barisic: One of few who can hold their heads up high. Ajax were getting a lot of joy down the Croatian’s flank but he performed reasonably well while others around him floundered. Super challenge on Kudus as he danced his way through the Rangers defence and looked certain to score midway through the second half. Thought he had scored a screamer when he rifled a shot past Pasveer with his right foot only for VAR to rule it out for offside. 7

John Lundstram: Looked overawed by the occasion. Caught underneath the ball for the Ajax opener as Alvarez was able to nod home from close range from a corner. Caught in possession on 29 minutes but fortunately Sands saved the day with a timely interception. Moved back to form a back five in the second half as Rangers looked to limit the damage. 5

Glen Kamara: Good covering as early as 90 seconds in when he filled in for Tavernier as Ajax looked to threaten down the right. One of a number of players who were guilty of losing possession too cheaply, however. The Finn has been a standout performer for Rangers many times in Europe but he was more of a liability tonight. 4

Scott Wright: The one change to the team that lost heavily to Celtic as he replaced Steven Davis. Worked hard as ever but simply couldn’t impact the game in any way shape or form such was Ajax’s dominance. Hooked at the break. 2

Malik Tillman: Unfortunately the on-loan Bayern Munich man looked every inch someone who has only played a handful of games as a senior professional. Guilty of poor decision making at various points and a lack of urgency in a defensive sense to stem the constant flow of Ajax attacks. Subbed for Jack at half time. 2

Ryan Kent: Guilty of losing possession too easily on a number of occasions. Was on the receiving end of a crunching challenge that amazingly went unpunished in the first half but that aside Rensch had him in his back pocket. Should've scored in the dying embers when he was presented with a chance following a rare Ajax mistake but failed to capitalise. 4

Antonio Colak: Worked hard but Rangers simply couldn’t get near him as a focal point. Found himself isolated at times and was completely ineffectual. 3

Substitutes

Leon King: Perhaps a surprise to see him replace Tavernier at the break although the captain had a howler of a half. Acquitted himself well and can be proud of his Champions League debut. 6

Ryan Jack: Replaced Tillman at the break and immediately added more bite in the engine room. Unfortunate to be booked for a sliding challenge on Tadic after a poor pass from Kamara. At fault for goal number four after losing possession allowing Bergwijn to home in on goal before rounding McLaughlin and slotting into an empty net. 4

Rabbi Matondo: Replaced Wright at the break. Whipped a teasing ball across goal on 66 minutes but Kent couldn't get a clean strike on the ball at the back post. That aside, he was fairly anonymous. 3

Steven Davis: Replaced Kamara on 77 minutes. 3
