Rangers moved to the top of the Scottish Premiership with an excellent 4-0 win over Hearts in Gorgie.

The goals came through a double from in-form Antonio Colak, a deadly finish from substitute Alfredo Morelos and a wonderful late individual goal from Ryan Kent.

Here are the key talking points from the match.

Away day blues banished

There's been a few weeks of discontent around the club with significant foment amongst the fans over numerous issues. You always got the sense that at the heart of this was frustration over performances after poverty-stricken, error-strewn performances against Celtic and Ajax. Such defeats will always provoke anxiety in the support and the only way to dispel it is with victories. Rangers did well to get a two-goal cushion in the first half to calm nerves and then saw the game out professionally, aided by Hearts' reduction to ten men.

Antonio Colak continues a remarkable run

Very occasionally, a Rangers player just arrives ready-made. Michael Mols, Marco Negri and Dado Prso spring to mind. The demands are high at Ibrox and the list of those who can bring an instant A-game is short but Colak can definitely be classed amongst them now with 11 goals. For the striker to hit double figures by October 1 is a fantastic return for a minimal £1.8m investment. The ruthless quality of his finishing has been remarkable and his return of eight league goals comes from an xG tally of just 3.16. While stats can sometimes be used to obscure truth this one is highly illuminating. For all there have been question marks about the summer recruitment, the deal to bring in the Croatian looks inspired business by Ross Wilson.

Davies and Goldson look promising

The partnership that looks key to the future was really solid in the first half with Davies using the ball well and showing his composure on the ball. Sadly, it was only to last 45 minutes with Davies removed for Sands at half-time, presumably as a precaution given a first-half booking. Goldson has been below his best to this point but looked all the better for having a rest during the international break. He was sharp in the tackle and positioned himself well throughout, looking far more like the player that has been Scotland's best defender in the last two seasons.

Cammy Devlin's moment of madness

Referees rightly get a lot of flack for letting too much go as part of the culture of physicality that's allowed to thrive in Scotland so it's important to give them credit when they make a good call. Steven McLean instantly brandished a red card to the Australian after a brutal stamp on the ankle of Rabbi Matondo. The midfielder had charged across the pitch to make the needless, thoughtless challenge and was sent packing. Fortunately, the Welsh winger was able to continue. Matondo, who has been in and out of the side since arriving in the summer had a solid game, creating Colak's second goal brilliantly.

McLean didn't get everything right though - and then some. His decision to chalk off Scott Arfield's perfectly legitimate goal for an invisible push on Craig Gordon in the first half was the perfect example of over-protected goalkeeping while there were several other more minor moments of frustration around the fussy nature of his officiating.
