Jon McLaughlin: Didn't have much to do as Dundee sat in throughout looking to hit on the break. Many thought Ross McCrorie would be more likely to take the field tonight but the veteran didn't let anyone down.

James Tavernier: The captain was presumably picked to add composure to a very inexperienced back line with King, Yilmaz and Sands 18,21 and 22 respectively. He wasn't at his swashbuckling best, tucking in and allowing Sakala to pin the line down the right-hand side. Solid thought.

James Sands: The American had a quiet game and was largely untested. Passed it conservatively but steadily. 6

Leon King: King continues to look accomplished at the back as he improves from the development opportunity offered by first-team football. Made an outstanding block from Max Anderson towards the end, preventing an almost certain goal. 7

Ridvan Yilmaz: A really promising performance full of guile and invention from left-back. Dundee aren't top-quality opposition of course, but there was enough in this display from the Turk to give a bit more evidence to why the club shelled out so much money to bring him from Besiktas in the summer.

John Lundstram: Gave the ball away a few times and looks like he could do with a break. Certainly continued his iffy form of late here and needs more consistent help in the engine room. 5

Steven Davis: Showed predatory instincts more befitting his old teammate Kris Boyd in anticipating an Adam Legzdins spill before nodding home sharply for the opening goal. Passed it about well and prodded and probed when he could. Subbed on 73 minutes for fellow Northern Irishman Charlie McCann.

Malik Tillman: Looked keen to get on the ball from the early part of the game. Full of nice touches and intricate passes but offered little direct goal threat. The American international is a technical marvel, particularly so given his powerful stature but he needs to do more given the size of his talent. Subbed off for Arfield with 17 minutes to go.

Fashion Sakala: As usual, a willing runner and a few nice moments throughout the game but like many of the attackers around him, not at his best. Booked for a kick-out at Cammy Kerr that might have been a soft red if VAR had been in operation. Deserves a chance in the team but he has to deliver more when afforded one.

Scott Wright: Claimed an assist for the first goal but in truth, it was more about the rank-rotten defending than Wright's excellence with the Tayside team giving him two bites at the cherry. His tame shot was saved but Steven Davis was quickest to react and nod home. Showed his pace on a number of occasions knocking the ball past the full-back with ease but struggled to find a final ball.

Alfredo Morelos: Dropped deep to pick up the ball and link play but his interchanges weren't sharp enough. Missed a few half chances. He looks a long way off the man who bullied defenders left and right in his Europa League heyday of 18/19 under Steven Gerrard. At the very least, it's more minutes in his legs as he looks to recapture his best form. Subbed for Roofe on 73 minutes. 5

Substitutes:

Kemar Roofe: Entered the fray with 17 minutes to go and got a good ovation from Rangers fans. Should offer a really good attacking option if fit going forward. Looked understandably leggy at first. Picked out McCann after rolling Sweeney. Found Sakala with a brilliant bit of hold-up play and nearly got on the end of the low cross that followed. A very bright appearance by the end from the Jamaican international. 6

Charlie McCann: Great chance after a cross from Roofe but blasted well over the bar. Picks up good positions and never hides. Added energy to proceedings. 3

Scott Arfield: A quiet cameo. 2
